Honey ~ FeLV Positive and Going Strong

Honey is a beautiful 4-year-old female that happens to be FeLV positive. In many places this would be reason to promptly euthanize, but not here! We know that, although FeLV is very serious, a positive diagnoses does not mean there is no hope of a great life for Honey.

A diagnosis of FeLV can be emotionally devastating, but it is important to realize that cats with FeLV can live normal lives for prolonged periods of time. The median survival time for cats after FeLV is diagnosed is 2.5 years, but can be many more years. Once a cat has been diagnosed with FeLV, careful monitoring of weight, appetite, activity level, elimination habits, appearance of the mouth and eyes, and behavior is an important part of managing this disease. Any signs of abnormality in any of these areas should prompt immediate consultation with a veterinarian.

Honey was diagnosed as being FeLV positive in 2021 with both an Idexx Snap Test and an Idexx PCR test. Since then she has had absolutely no problems at all. She has been kept with other FeLV positive cats and got along great with them. Unfortunately she recently lost her last FeLV+ friend and has been in our Feline Leukemia room all alone. She would absolutely love a family to call her own. Honey would need to be the only cat or with other FeLV positive kitties. She is safe to mix with other animals as FelV is a CAT ONLY virus.

Honey needs an adoption hero ASAP so that the remainder of her life can be in a loving home being the wonderful silly cat that she was meant to be.
